The Mercury Racing Dual Cal 1550/1350 stands at the summit of marine engineering and innovation, delivering an extraordinary 1,550 horsepower at full calibration and 1,350 horsepower in cruise mode — all from the same engine. With dual-calibration technology, operators can switch between performance levels instantly through the SmartCraft® Digital Throttle & Shift (DTS) system, choosing between race-ready power and optimized cruising efficiency at the touch of a button. At the heart of the system is the Mercury Racing QC4v 9.0L quad-cam, four-valve V8, a purpose-built, all-aluminum engine designed exclusively for high-performance marine applications. Twin water-cooled turbochargers with dual intercoolers provide immense boost pressure, delivering explosive acceleration, instant throttle response, and consistent top-end power in all conditions. The closed freshwater cooling circuit and dual-stage charge-air cooling system maintain optimal temperatures, ensuring longevity and reliability even under continuous high-load offshore racing conditions. Each engine is hand-built at Mercury Racing’s facility in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, using forged internals, marine-grade alloys, and precision-balanced rotating assemblies for unmatched strength and endurance. When set to 1550 Mode, the engine unleashes its full potential with a calibration optimized for high-octane 112 RON racing fuel. In 1350 Mode, it automatically adjusts ignition timing, boost, and fuel delivery for pump-grade 91 RON gasoline, offering extended range and maximum durability during long-distance cruising. Fully integrated with SmartCraft® DTS, the system provides instant calibration switching, real-time monitoring, smooth shifting, and digital precision — giving the operator complete confidence and control. The Mercury Racing Dual Cal 1550/1350 is protected by Mercury’s advanced corrosion-resistance systems, including MercFusion® coating, MerCathode® active protection, and the optional SeaCore® system, making it suitable for both freshwater and saltwater environments. The Mercury Racing Dual Cal 1550/1350 sterndrive features an advanced control system which enables the operator to switch engine power level via an electronic key fob.
